Colour Multi-Touch E-Ink Kindle Later This Year ?

An article on Digitimes cites claims from a touch panel manufacturer that Amazon are preparing a new colour e-ink Kindle for release in the latter half of 2012. If this is true, it would be almost on the anniversary of the last Kindle hardware refresh which saw the Kindle 4, Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire released.

The reports indicates that this new colour Kindle would feature a proper multi-touch screen which should prove much more responsive than the basic infra-red system currently used on the Kindle Touch.

There have also been mentions of additions to the Kindle Fire range this year, so it could be that the source has the two mixed mixed up. All we can do is wait and see, although based on past experience, expect at least six months between any US release and a UK rollout.
