So am I wrong, and you can in fact shop on the KPW and buy your books from Amazon.co.uk? From what I read of people who bought the Kindle Touch early, I thought you couldn't do so, and it was only when the Touch was available in the UK that it worked correctly. Am I getting things mixed up?

You could always order directly from the Kindle, but you had to do it via the built in web browser and not via the 'shop in kindle store' menu. Once it came out in the UK, then you could do both.

RE: How to order a Kindle Paperwhite from the UK (imported from US)

I’m fuming. Fuming at Amazon.com but more fuming at myself. Here’s my story:

I had an order for a Paperwhite 3G. Placed on the 11th September with delivery date on the 16th October. Today I went into the order to update the payment details. After doing so it reset my delivery date to 23rd October. Panicking I called Amazon.com (yes its international but I was panicking!!) They were useless! They tell me ‘The page clearly states expected shipment is the 22nd October’ I tell them that is what the page says today, that is not what the page said on the 11th September.

Long story short… after 3 further calls with Amazon, I was furious and the order was cancelled. The last advisor told me that All Kindle Paperwhite’s are being delayed. When pressed she just said its because the components are in short supply. I’ve trawled the web for this and found nothing about pre-orders placed before the expected delivery date changed on the kindle page.

MY POINT – I don’t believe that anyone with a pre-order will be delayed. I think I was being spun a yarn about delays in delivery. I think that the simple fact I changed my payment details to my new card caused my order to shift in the queue….to the back!!!

Just wanted to warn others so they don’t get the short straw (because damn it the short straw is mine!!!) Be careful about changing payment details.

Yes, it's definitely a bit dodgy changing anything about your order once it's in the queue. I ordered a Wi-Fi only and then had second thoughts, but had I changed to a 3G, it would have set me back 3 weeks, so I didn't do it in the end.

I'm surprised that changing payment method had that effect though.

I'm mortified. I'm more angry at myself for being a doughnut and changing the payment details.

This does of course mean I intend to live vicariously through you Lou!! I will be eagerly anticipating your full, thorough review of your Kindle Paperwhite when you get it. Please!!!!

Bit of a pyrrhic victory but after 5 emails and 3 phone calls I'm managed to get Amazon to drop $50 dollars plus provide free One day shipping. I still wont get my new toy till November though... and its all my own fault for changing the payment details.

I have to admit the last customer service adviser was excellent. Listened, was sympathetic, and really helpful.

Excuse me whilst I go cry in the corner.

Well done. $50 is pretty damn good. Good on you for persisting.

That is really good.

I have just looked at my delivery date, and saw that it was expected to be 17th October. Angry

Here I thought it was going to be start of October and not middle of October when I will receive it. Oh well, looks like I will have to wait.

All I have to do now, is to decided if I want to buy a Kindle Fire from Waterstones or not.

Ah ok, thanks for that, I hadn't realised quite how easy it was to get round that very minor issue (very minor as I rarely buy via the Kindle anyway - for some reason my KK has stopped loading any web pages so I can't even if I wanted too).

Can't wait until you all start getting your pre-orders so I can hear what the new one is like. Thumbs Up

Manage my Kindle Account

Hi All

I ordered a Paperwhite on launch day, and it is showing both in Amazon.com "Orders" and in the US "Manage my Kindle" site.

When I log into Amazon.co.uk it offers me the option of changing to the .co.uk "Manage my Kindle" site.

Can I do this now? I'm assuming it won't have any effect on the order etc.

Thanks!
