Kindle Daily Deal - Check Your Receipts

I checked the Amazon Daily Deal page at about half past midnight last night. It looked interesting: The Big Questions: Philosophy by Simon Blackburn for £1.09, so I clicked through to the product page - where the Kindle edition was shown as being £6.26. I wrote a post warning about it here, but just before hitting the [Post Thread] button I went back to check my facts and found the product page had been updated to £1.09, so I cancelled the post and bought the back.

This morning I received a receipt email for £6.26.

I can't believe that Amazon do not drive the price shown on the page and the price charged from the same database record, so I suspect this was a distributed database update problem. So the takeaway is if you purchase from Amazon very soon after a price change - check your receipt.

No doubt Amazon Customer Services will see me right, but I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't noticed.

Yes, I think the problem with Amazon is that their whole ecosystem is so spread out that it sometimes takes ages changes in one part of the product list to propagate to the others.

Amazon were quick to correct the mistake and credit my account with the missing fiver. Unfortunately they decided it was for a black ladies handbag and have debited the account of a totally unrelated marketplace dealer for the sum. So I've now had to chase Amazon again to get them to rectify the rectification!

You can get your refund straight from your Manage Your Kindle page. Just click on "actions"

Please put a bowl of water out for hedgehogs and other night-time visitors, you might just save their life.
While you are at it, feed the birds too. Thumbs Up

I didn't want a refund - just the difference between what I paid and the advertised price. Amazon were quick to rectify this and credit me the difference - however there seemed to be a confusion over what the refund was for, and I was concerned that an innocent third-party marketplace dealer would end up out of pocket.

Amazon's explanation was that for technical reasons they couldn't refund part of a Kindle transaction and so had to put through the refund on a different transaction. Sounds strange to me as I would have thought this would cause other problems further down the accounting system (but then I'm only a software architect - what would I know? Undecided

)

I have had the same problem twice in the last fortnight, but Amazon have been brilliant and refunded me the difference in no time at all. They can't refund against a Kindle purchase without you losing the book apparently, so always refund against your last physical order, which were two cookery books in my case. It is a shame that they have these problems with Daily Deals though, I have found them in the middle of the day so it isn't as if the book has just gone on offer either.

Only happy when I am immersed in a good Kindle book Thumbs Up
