Kindle Fire 2 release date in September! Amazon Press Conference on the 6th of September to announce it!
Just as the Amazon employees told me that a Kindle Fire 2 isn't even supposed to be made (link) Amazon decides to invite the media to a press conference without announcing what it is about. As TechRader reports the conference will be held on the 6th of September in an airport hanger in Santa Monica, Calif. It seems Amazon wants their words to "echo" loudly in there (pun intended)!

Amazon did not say much in their invitation to the press, all they revealed is "Please join us for an Amazon Press Conference."

Speculation.... 0630 Santa Monica time is early afternoon in EUROPE
Maybe moving back in time from the NEW YORK launch last November (hasn't time flown?) means that WE may get good news this time whilst we are still working and the markets open.

PLEASE GOD I'm right.

I only hope it's Kindles and not a phone they're releasing. Plenty enough phones already.

RE: September 6th

I can't imagine they'll release a phone, I don't see what value it adds. Most people don't stream music or movies on them, they download them onto the device because connections aren't reliable enough and if Amazon wants to encourage people to buy from them on the move an app serves the purpose fine.

I can only assume the announcement will be for a new tablet, i.e. the Fire 2.

The question is, will the UK actually get it this time? We didn't get the original Kindle until the 3rd gen, will they repeat that?

Quote: Remaining tight-lipped around the nature of the event, the official Amazon invite has offered no indication as to the purpose of the grand unveiling stating simply: "Please join us for an Amazon Press Conference."

I wouldn't say it was official yet, but I can't imagine it'll be anything else. The Nexus 7 just blew the current Fire out of the water and we're rapidly heading towards the Christmas shopping people, which is typically the big period for gadgets.

RE: September 6th

I was about to upgrade to a Kindle Touch, but am now going to wait a little, in the expectation that Amazon will announce a front-lit version. At the moment the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight is the only really unique selling point that B&N have over the Kindle. With the announcement that the Nook will start shipping worldwide Amazon need to respond. Incorporating a front-light is basically a matter of adding a few LEDs and a diffraction grating so I'm surprised that Amazon are not offering a Kindle Glow already. Unless of course they plan to leapfrog B&N and announce a colour e-reader...
