RE: Amazon Delivery update - Inventive Idea

At last ..... long overdue.

Home Delivery Network have been doing this for years but Amazon didn't use them. In the past this has prevented me from ordering something from Amazon when I knew it would probably arrive when I was away from the house.

I even emailed Amazon a couple of years back when they stopped using exclusively Royal Mail, explaining that should I get a 'you were out when we tried to deliver' note through my door from Mr Postie then my sorting office was just three miles away and open extended hours making it easy to pick up. Should I get this from a courier then they may be based 40 or 50 miles away and only open to the public 9-5 Mon - Fri (this actually happened to me which prompted the email to Amazon). Redelivery by the courier was always (even when I could get a convenient alternative day) sometime between 7am & 1pm ...... or something equally as unhelpful. I got a friendly but non-committal response from Amazon.

For a company which has been at the forefront of internet shopping with home delivery Amazon have been way behind the curve on this one ...... up until now.

PLUS. We all might support our local shops, post offices, Asian stores a lot more than when we run out of milk for the Yorkshire Puds on a Sunday

Sounds like a good idea to me. There's nothing more frustrating than waiting on a delivery.

I usually end up holding back my Amazon purchases until I know I'm going to be off work and then usually pay for Express Delivery so I definitely know when its due to arrive. Delivery to a local shop will be much easier and cheaper, even if they charge extra for this service.

One thing I do find annoying with Amazon is that you can't sort their listings by available for Express Delivery (i.e direct from Amazon). I'm usually not interested in buying from a reseller if I was I'd be looking on ebay.

They do sometimes show a filter box at the side allowing you to choose the seller.

Thanks, I've never actually seen that and I have looked in the past, but I'll definitely keep my eyes out for it next time I'm ordering.

RE: Amazon Delivery update - Inventive Idea

It does sound like a good idea.
Imagine how cosy it will be when Christmas-time comes, and 300 people have their parcels delivered to the small town corner shop and all turn up to try to get their parcels. Hopefully customers and staff will be able to get into said corner shop without squishing somebody elses parcel Smile
and then what happens to parcels if they've been left there a week? or 2? or maybe a month?.

While that sounds like a negative situation, I am all for flexibility.
We use Collect+ for deliveries (sending out).
The shop we take them to has a sack behind the counter for the parcels.
It is a small town, but if a lot of people shop then they will need a spare room ! Smile
