What I Read

RE: My KDP select experience and free promo results.

I think that could be because a book becomes unranked when it comes off free and it's position is based on the number of free downloads, in which case it would be possible to be worse of than you were before the promotion. So there could be an element of gamble to it. I'd like to think though that when you get a new ranking it takes your position before the promotion into account. Maybe it does. Maybe a book could drop in position after the promotion if the downloads (divided by 10) are less than the sales that book would usually get during the free promotion period.

Thanks Jon. I see it's still there this morning, which is great. Smile I'm sure it's going to plummet though when the 24-hour period is up. It helped that it was held on the free list for 36 hours while sales accumulated. When it eventually came off the free list and got it's chart position it went from unranked to around 170 in the Kindle store. It's risen a bit since then so maybe it will stay on the movers & shakers list for another day. I'm hoping it will stay visible into the weekend. Popularity isn't all that high. Not bad, but you have to click through several pages to find ITB. Curiously it was No.5 in popularity overall yesterday for a very brief spell then suddenly it had dropped right down. I don't think we'll ever fully understand the ways of the Amazon machine.
