RE: I've just had an email from Amazon ...

...I wish someone would explain to me why Amazon keep emailing me with recommendations for Swiss Army knives!
Oh yes, and I nearly forgot the recommendation for 'Artisan Breadmaking' - that one turns up in my inbox about once a fortnight.

What I Read

RE: I've just had an email from Amazon ...

I think I might have sold the mystery.

About ten days ago a fellow children's author asked me to like his book on Amazon. I did. Yesterday evening they sent me an email recommending it Sad

Amazon uses the 'like' button to discover its customers' choices and preferences - so it can promote similar items. I've probably 'liked' my own book at sometime, and I've certainly visited the page often enough (especially over the last few days Big Grin) so that's the reason they sent the email. I bet you've all 'liked' your own page, too, haven't you?

And there was me thinking Amazon might be clever enough to recommend my book to other customers. *sigh*.

LOL I get all the author recommendation emails and then more every day recommending things that I perhaps browsed once six months ago and then decided I didn't need anyway - Amazon tends to remember everything you look at. I am currently getting emails every week showing me selections of Roberts radios. I do want one, but I have no intention of buying one, I am dropping hints like mad about one for my birthday later in the year.

I keep getting recommendations for books I have looked at in the past, and although I haven't bought a DTB in ages, they still keep suggesting them. I also get Kindle suggestions, but not for any of our Indie authors. Sad

I think that's the answer. They know where you've been browsing and when you don't buy the item, they nudge you every so often.

Buy the book and it might stop Smile

Other than their 'Newsletter' thingy, Amazon don't email me at all. However, when I'm browsing books on Amazon the 'Customers who bought items in your Recent History also bought' thingy is always full of 'KUF Bad Boy' David Wailing's books - I'd love to know how he gets so many groupies!
