What I Read

RIP Maeve Binchy

What a shame. It's been many years since I read one of her books, but as I was growing up they were part of the staple reading diet in our house. My mum would always have the latest and then it would come to me, then my aunties in turn. You always knew you could disappear into a different world for a few hours when you had your head stuck in one of her books.

RE: RIP Maeve Binchy

Yes, very sad. I saw it in the news earlier. I read all her books many years ago and there was something very comforting about them.

What I Read

RE: RIP Maeve Binchy

I read her books at a very stressful time in my life, and I remember escaping to a field just to read and relax.
There was a lovely quote from her yesterday that went something like this:

"I dont write ugly duckling that turn into swans, but into confident ducks."

Says it all. Clapping hands

That is a real pity. What a career to have had though - walk into a books shop anywhere in the world, new, second hand, charity shop - and you'll see at least one of her books. Can't ask for a better legacy than that - I bet literally millions of people all over the world are now remembering what her books meant to them. Not too shabby for a lass from Dublin!

...and she's one of those rare authors whose books evoke memories of times and places for me. Give me one of her books and I can tell you where I was when I read it.
