Backlight versus eInk

I love my Kindle in broad daylight eInk is marvellous stuff. At night for bedtime reading I've found myself using a Kindle app on my Smartphone, not to disturb the sleeping. What kind of hybrid all-in-one am I looking for?

although i love my kindle and the eink, i also have an android tablet and use the kindle app on that - it works very well...
also, if your library has an elibrary online especially with overdrive then you can also borrow books from there and read them on it - they are epub format and you can download the overdrive app to read them...

It's expected that Amazon will make an announcement sometime later this year about it's next Kindle, and it's heavily tipped to be one with a light. Basically a front-lit e-ink screen, similar to the Nook with GlowLight.

I much prefer to read on an eInk screen even if that means having to turn a light on. I do have an iPad and I also have the Kindle app on my mobile phone but I'd still use the kindle before the others if I had the choice. the only time I use the mobile phone or iPad is if I don't have my kindle with me.

In fact I've been reading e-books for years on mobile devices, right back from the Compaq iPaq days right through to the iPad. After a year of reading on the iPad 1 screen though my eye's were starting to suffer and I decided it was time to try out a Kindle. I will never go back to a back light LCD screen now Kindle Smile

Backlit eInk would be perfect - with LED for low power! Thanks I_macd & Phil for your thoughts.

Hi Chitma - a question for you!
What about the backlit versus eInk daylight & dark reading issue?

For me its the Kindle in daylight and the Kindle with a clip on light in the dark.

I rarely read on the iPad nowadays. If I'm waiting in the car to pick someone up, then I would usually have the kindle with me. If I'm out and about on foot then I normally only have my mobile phone with me so I fire up the Kindle app then.

I would not have an interest in a backlit Kindle. I find the built in reading light is fine on the official case..

RE: Backlight versus eInk

Is there any evidence to suggest that reading a device with a backlight is more fatiguing for the eyes?
I buy the idea but could it be subconscious?
