USB plug adaptor

Now that I have my Kindle (book 6 and counting after 2-3 weeks of ownership) I'm hardly ever on my laptop. Therefore charging the Kindle may become an issue.

When I got my iPod I got a plug adaptor to go with it. it's just a plug with a USB slot. After spending this much on the machine itself, I'm keen to save a bit of money but I don't want to damage it at all. Has anyone used a plug adapter like this? I haven't checked the power outage on it but it is built for a USB cable ....

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Most USB adaptors are all capable of charging each other. I have a mobile phone charger, logitech mouse charger, iPad, iPod, and kindle charger which I use interchangeably.

The only thing I would say is that the iPad one although it does supply the same voltage as the others does supply a much higher current to fast charge the iPad. If you use all the other chargers on the iPad they only slow charge the iPad. I have used my iPad charger on the kindle without any problems but I don't tend to do it very often as normally I'm charging the iPad every night. I doubt it would be a problem to use it as your main kindle charger.

I normally charge the kindle on the PC for a couple of hours in the morning whilst im doing the early morning, kids and hubby off out the door and getting myself to work stuff. I have used the USB adapter which came with my Nokia phone though and it works fine.

RE: USB plug adaptor

I've got a couple of Kindle charger plugs but for some reason they've ended up regularly charging my ipod and phone. Meanwhile the Kindle gets charged with an old HTC phone charger. The voltages, but not the current, should be standard across all USB chargers so they are interchangeable, but some will charge the Kindle quicker than others.

I always use branded USB chargers, however. Some of the cheap and cheerful third-party chargers on the market have seriously dodgy innards - I once had one that I'd been given explode in my hand as I plugged it in. There was no damage to my hand, but it certainly gave me a scare. I've seen designs that broke all the isolation rules and could potentially put mains voltages down the output lead which wouldn't do the Kindle any good at all.

Cheers,

Jonathan

RE: USB plug adaptor

Hi being a total novice with regard to Kindles (Which is not surprising really as will not own one till tomorow !) I am curious if my Samsung Ace Micro USB Mobile phone charger will not only fit my (Soon to be in my hot sticky little hand..) but is also safe to use with a Kindle Touch. PLEASE somebody advise before I waste money on buying a mains charger.

ive used the nokia one and the blackberry one to charge mine with no problems. I think as long as you stick to a reputable one - like the one that comes with your Samsung - you should be OK. Personally, I wouldnt trust a 99p one from the Poundshop. Plus, you can charge by plugging into the PC.

Hi BTW, and we were all novice Kindlers once (I still am) so dont worry about asking any questions!

Another question is can you use your Kindle while it is charging...?Some gadgets advise not to as it can shorten battery life. I want it charged and raring to go on demand...Too impatient to wait. How long does it take to charge the Kindle? Itching to get my hands on it. Feel like a child on Christmas Eve. Not bad for an oap!

RE: USB plug adaptor

hi, i initially bought a Amazon kindle plug for the kindle touch - what a waste of money that was - the same plug as I use for my ipod, ipad, iphone etc so returned the Amazon one asap for a refund. I use the same plug for the ipad, phone etc as i do for my kindle - works perfectly well so why buy something more - mind you it is a reputable one and not a cheapy job.
