Kindle arrived at friend's on Friday, YAY. She is flying over this Friday. I can't wait!!! But my son emailed me last night to say he understood that I was hoping to browse the internet using the 3g (when in UK) and that it wont work for browsing and that I will have to use the wi-fi. Is this true. It wont be a disaster, but it will be a disappointment...

If I have understood correctly, you have a Kindle Keyboard 3G; in which case you WILL be able to use 3G internet pretty-much anywhere in Europe (I have used it from Bulgaria to Spain) and in many other places besides. (The only place it didn't work for me was India.)

(The KKB is the only Kindle which retains this feature - the Kindle Touch has the web browser, but it can only be used with Amazon and Wikipedia over 3G.)

(I am very tempted to buy another 'spare' KKB now, before it (and therefore the feature) is discontinued - it is invaluable for following cricket when I am on holiday; although to be fair, the EU are starting to force roaming bills downwards - the ceiling on my O2 contract (within the EU, which is most of my travel) is now 'only' about £40 per month.)

Er, that's a funny one: My husband downloaded himself a bunch of books, just after he'd ordered my Kindle. He didnt realise there was now an option for which Kindle it would go to. So all of those were sent to mine. When they failed to arrive on his, he changed the order, but by then they were on mine anyway. LOL. So, we both have them. But, I have downloaded The Coral Island by R. M. (Robert Michael) Ballantyne , & I already had begun to read Perking the Pansies, Jack Scott on my Husband's Kindle, so I have now transferred it to mine.
So. my 'Inaugural Read' will be to finish 'Perking the Pansies' Big Grin

Sadly, just after I got my KK, A friend of mine fell seriously ill. I was able to take my KK out with me and keep up to date on him. It was far easier than taking laptop out and we were communicating via internet as it was cheaper than using telephone, seeing as his sons were using UK mobiles and my friend was hospitalised here in Turkey.

I hope you find this side of it useful sometimes. It's fiddlier, due to size of screen, but nevertheless it is possible and VERY handy Thumbs Up
