VEEP

Don't know if any of you have been watching HBO and Armando Iannucci's US-based political satire/comedy show VEEP? It is currently being shown on Sky Atlantic and stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus who plays Selina Meyer, Vice-President of the United States.

This is very reminiscent of Iannucci's great UK-politics based 'The Thick of It', which was itself, an updated version of 'Yes, Minister' and 'Yes, Prime Minister' which starred the late, great Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne.

Compared to either of Iannucci's creations, 'Yes Minister' was very genteel with no swearing and little sense of pressure or of reality. I loved all three, but for realism as to how characters are portrayed 'in real life', then 'The Thick of It' must be hard to beat, though Veep comes a close second.

Only the first two episodes of Veep have been shown here so far, but I can't wait for more.

I haven't seen the second one yet, but I did enjoy the first episode.

He made a film along similar lines, but I can't for the life of me remember the title.

RE: VEEP

That was 'In the Loop' which featured many of the same characters as in 'The Thick of It', Lou. Very funny.

RE: VEEP

The film was called In The Loop, which was almost a film length version of the Thick Of It, but some of the characters names were changed (for no obvious reason).

I am liking Veep so far. I don't think it is as good as The Thick of It, it feels a little toned down in comparison. Maybe it is just missing the sweary rants of Peter Capaldi.

Don't forget this is also shown in the US (it is a HBO-backed project after all), and Americans are known for being frightfully prissy about swearing in TV shows.
