Uk bought Kindle Touch in France

Hi
I have just bought a Kindle Touch in the UK, for use in the UK and France. Someone has just told me I should have bought one with 3G. Is this correct, or will the standard Kindle Touch be ok for use in France?
Thanks.

RE: Uk bought Kindle Touch in France

It'll work fine in both the UK and France.

The only difference between the Kindle Touch and the Kindle Touch 3G is that the latter enables you to download books from Amazon anytime and anywhere using the free 3G wireless connection. With the standard Kindle, you need to connect via Wi-Fi (either to a Wi-Fi router at home or via a Wi-Fi hotspot).

Thanks.
I bought a KT in the US and registered it on the UK Amazon site, I've "bought" plenty of free books in English.

I live is Spain and everthing works fine, except I have just sent an email to Amazon to ask why when I go onto the Amazon Spanish site to buy a book in Spanish it redirects me to the UK site after telling me I can't buy books there; Crazy eh!

RE: Uk bought Kindle Touch in France

We live in France and are considering a Kindle Touch with 3G. We already have an "old fashioned" Kindle with WIFI, but when going in to hospital, say, where there is no WIFI connection, obviously we cannot connect to Amazon.

So, will a UK registered Kindle touch with 3G work in France? In other words, will it be recognised by the French mobile network and, if so, will Amazon still absorb the costs of connection?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the 3G should work fine in France and practically all of Europe (as long as there's reception) and at no charge. I would check with the hospital though, as they may not like a mobile device being used.

RE: Uk bought Kindle Touch in France

Thanks for that Lou.
Now the next questions then.

I currently have a newspaper delivered daily (from Kindleman), which comes via my WIFI connection to my Kindle. Could that then be automatically "transmitted" to my proposed Kindle Touch 3G? Presumably I'd need to tell Kindleman th id of the new Kindle Touch.

If we do buy the Kindle Touch 3G, would this have to have a unique registration "address" with Amazon? If so, can I change the id of our current Kindle so that the new one may have my current id to enable me to receive, on the new Touch, the newspaper being sent by Kindleman? Complicated question? In other words, how would Amazon/Kindleman recognise that I have a new Touch, the old one being used as a spare, just for book reading by MOH?

Again, thanks in advance.

Each kindle on your account can have a different email address, so you can just have it delivered to the touch's email instead of your old one. If you do it via 3G though, you will be charged for the delivery.

Thank you for your very helpful replies. One final question(?).

If we buy a Kindle from Amazon France (about 10% cheaper than UK), can we "register" it with Amazon UK?

Yes, all you need to do is just register it to your UK account and it will behave exactly the same as one bought from the UK.
