Star Opinions on the cover for my short story anthology

Hi all,
Just wondered what everyone thinks of my latest cover that will be for the short story anthology due for release in a couple of weeks. I've gone with a new artist this time, Brian Poor, and I think he's come up with something really amazing but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Heart I'm really happy with it but input is always a big help Smile

Cheers,
Trace

The artwork is interesting but the text doesn't quite work for me. I had to squint to read it so perhaps it could be a little clearer. On the other and, I haven't had my morning cup of tea yet and I'm having to squint to read anything.

RE: Opinions on the cover for my short story anthology

Hi Trace
It's difficult to judge a cover without any knowledge of the content as one can't tell how well the two relate. Without knowing whether the stories are based on real historical events, traditional cultural myths, or modern fantasy, it's not possible to say how appropriate it is.
It does seem pretty eye-catching and atmospheric to me, but although the treasure chest and fierce creatures are clear enough, I really can't make out what is depicted in the centre of the image - and that's the most important area.

Despite the fact that you are in your Brisbane winter and we are, supposedly, in the middle of our summer, I suspect you are enjoying much better weather than we are. (Please don't feel obliged to comment on that - it's just the British obsession with weather popping out.)

It looks like a good cover, just seems a little dark so I can't make out the details, or maybe it's my old monitor!

It's definitely eye-catching and I like the contrast, but I agree with Rosen - I found the text slightly difficult to read.

I like the art-work! Lures me in. Best of luck with it, Tracey.

It's definitely eye-catching but I can't work out what the centre piece is either.

Best wishes for it Smile

RE: Opinions on the cover for my short story anthology

Thanks everyone for your input. I do tend to agree with the text but that was the best font we could find that seemed to work so we went with that - may change it later Huh

As for the centrepiece that's a tricky one as it represents both a cave, a landscape and a dragon's eye - I thought it was rather clever the way Brian pulled that together and makes for an interesting talking point on the cover. All of the imagery relates directly to the stories in the anthology which was something very important to me. Big Grin

And yes, Barry, we're having a lovely Winter Down Under, it almost feels like Spring - beautiful clear days and nights just cold enough to really enjoy snuggling up in the doona. Wink
