What do you call a new edition that's not a new edition?

I'm about to send a revision of Seesaw to FeedARead. It has many minor edits but no major alterations. I was going to call it a second edition but I read online that new editions have new ISBNs, so I'm not sure that that's quite right. How should I label the new version?

Edition 1.0
Edition 1 (revised)
Edition 1 (revision 1)
Edition 1 (ii)

I think you can just upload as a revised edition without needing a new ISBN but I'm not 100% certain.

My understanding is that ANY revision to a book creates another edition. So a book that has an ISBN needs a new one. And each new book with an ISBN needs to have a copy sent to the British Library. The ISBN is unique to that book.

An ebook does not have to have an ISBN (in fact neither a paper nor digital does, but if you want to sell through the major distributors and retail outlets you will need one.)

So it depends on where you sell it as much as anything.

As far as the labelling, how about Edition 1 (revised). On Amazon I have a feeling there is a box that you can make a comment as to the changes you have made.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Teresa. I think, when I signed up to FeedARead, the cost of one ISBN was included in the price of the premium distribution package. It costs £39 to upload a new version but I don't know if that includes a new ISBN. I'll ask them.

RE: What do you call a new edition that's not a new edition?

The situation is as described by Theresa, so any change to a published book with an ISBN strictly speaking constitutes a new edition and requires a new ISBN. A second edition of the first of my Dartmoor novels was published (new cover and a couple of pages of extracts from press reviews in the front) and given a new ISBN.
In my experience this gave rise to a problem with Amazon. Both editions continue to be listed. Anyone searching for the book by title will be taken to the new edition, but all the existing reviews remain attached to the first edition. Amazon can't simply remove the first edition because some people who bought paperback copies are now selling them secondhand. (How shocking that they don't realise they are getting rid of a great work of literature that should be treasured forever.)
So my advice is, whatever you do, don't call it a second edition.

You can also buy ISBNs in blocks of ten from Nielson they used to cost just over £100 for ten. They you assign these as you need.

Thanks for the warning! I think I'll call it 'Edition 1 (revised)'. I definitely don't want to get caught up in ISBN problems.

Teresa, FeedARead handle the ISBNs for me.
