New user looking to buy a Kindle Touch... front lit coming this month?

Hello all

New forum member here, it's a nice surprise to see such a well developed community behind Kindles!

I'm looking to buy my first e-reader and have settled on the Kindle Touch. After a quick google (as one does before buying a new product), I discovered that there are many reports saying that the Kindle Touch will be rereleased this month with a front lit display. I was wondering if anybody knows anything more about this report? Blush

It seems strange to me when the Touch was only released 2 months ago - very quick response to the Nook Glow!

I guess it's a case of wanting to buy a shiny new Kindle but not being able to open my wallet if there's a new one coming this month Shy

The way the market is for all these things, there will always be a better one just around the corner. (Either that, or a price cut!)

Personally, if I were buying again today, I would still go for the 3G Keyboard, because I love the fact that I can use the web browser to keep up with the cricket (even abroad) for free; but if that isn't a big deal, I'd go with the most basic model, because the smallness and lightness wins over the touch features. (Though my answer would be different if the Touch had a 3G web browser.)

I quite like the touchscreen model, it would just be a shame to shell out for that and a case with a light etc. Especially if one is coming out within the next couple of weeks with one built in Undecided

I guess I'll just have to see what happens Smile

I'll post any further rumours about it that I find here. If others do the same that'd be cool.

As long as you are decided on some kind of kindle, make sure you get Kindle for PC (or mac) and stock up on books ready for it Big Grin

Please put a bowl of water out for hedgehogs and other night-time visitors, you might just save their life.
While you are at it, feed the birds too. Thumbs Up

Don't think there is anything new been added to those early rumours (from a month or two ago) of a new front-lit Kindle, so doubt it will be launched quite as soon as they seemed to think.

The question is, do you really need a Kindle with front-lit display? If you find yourself squinting at the screen when the lighting is a bit dull, or read a lot in bed then yes it might be worthwhile waiting, but if you don't read much in low-level lighting, read more in broad daylight or direct sunlight, then you'd probably be as well with the Kindle Touch.

Be aware the front lit screen won't be as clear as the standard Kindle screen unless you have the light on. If you read what people are saying about the Nook Glowlight, is has less contrast, and isn't as good as the standard Nook in direct sun, but is better indoors. Using the light will drain the battery a lot quicker though, and it seems unlikely that there will be any real upgrade over the Kindle Touch.
