RE: Publishers and retailers collecting stats on ebook readers

Ages ago Sky asked if they could track what I watch... I had assumed that they were already doing it. I said 'yes' and now they send me a £5 Amazon voucher every so often.

RE: Publishers and retailers collecting stats on ebook readers

Being paid for giving information is something different again Smile

I get paid for doing surveys. Fairly frequently I get offered X amount to download software so that my web usage can be tracked. The amount is usually something paltry like a fiver for a couple of months info. So far I have always refused, they would need to stump up a lot more!!

Every little thing we do is added to some great marketing computer somewhere. You would not believe what the likes of Tesco do with your shopping info if you have a club card! Or any loyalty card for that matter. brands, quantities, frequency of purchase etc is all tracked. Along with your age, sex and any other demographic they can get hold of!

Google will track your searches under the guise of using it to offer more pertinent results.

What all this does is narrow down the amount of info you get back and allow companies to target what they expose you too more carefully (in their opinion.) So what if there was a controversial or political book and people happened to be highlighting the same piece of text? Who would get to see that?

Big Brother really is watching, my friends!
