I'm not sure about 'sexualised', but it is totally inappropriate to the story.

I know. It doesn't capture the essence of the book at all. Also, that light text over a busy background is dreadful.

I'm not sure what that dead eyed doll has to do with a chocolate factory, perhaps there's an underlying message, like eating too much chocolate turns you into a mindless husk. I don't know.

It kind of reminds me of an advertisement for a 70's sitcom, albeit a rather depressing one.

RE: Lousy Book Covers...

It has a very 70s feel to it - the light text over the pastel background, and its styling. Very 70s. (which isn't necessarily bad)
The text styling is in keeping with their Modern Classics range, and so works in that context.
Definitely creepy, and from that point it certainly fits a Roald Dahl book. But I wouldn't have said Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. To me it says "automatons" more than anything else.
It also says book for adults rather than kids (I get that this is supposed to be an 'adult' edition)

But I don't get the "sexualised" comments or the Lolita allusion.
