Let us know how it works, Steve. I have played with Calibre but got confused so I am interested to hear how you get on with the PDF.

I had a look at using Calibre to convert a PDF (Book saved as PDF in MS Word) to a .mobi file. Easy to do, but the results were bad. It didn't keep much of the formatting from the Word PDF so it was all a bit of a mess. I think it would be trickier to get images across in this way, too. You'd have to include them in your Word document first, I should think. With Mobipocket it's really easy to add images.
RE: Mobipocket alternative for Mac users?
So, I'll stick with using Mac and PC until something as good as Mobipocket for Mac comes along. The exercise has made me appreciate how good (and easy) Mobipocket is for my needs.
