Amazon knows where you are - for example it will not let me buy books from the US Kindle store or even show the prices. And your ID is valid on all Amazon sites. So what puzzles me is why Amazon didn't pick up the fact that you are in the UK and stop the lender from lending you the book. Any ideas, folks? Is Amazon slipping up?

That is a valid point...why does amazon.com offer me the opportunity to buy and then when I go to accept says...uh..uh...you are in the UK...yes of course I am..so why offer me in the first place?????

RE: Borrowing from the USA????

Hmmm... wondering if your Kindle was bought from a major supplier or whether you got a bargain somewhere that might have been imported unofficially from the US? Just a thought, in case it was bought on eBay. No idea whether this would make any difference, especially if you can buy/download books from amazon.co.uk without problems.

I suppose, though, that borrowing will come to the UK eventually.
