Exclamation Can a UK bought Kindle Touch work in the USA?

Hi

I may be repeating what has already been posted but I am new to all this so sorry in advance!!

I am really keen on buying a Kindle Touch but am a little concerned as I am about to go and work in America for a while. Obviously I will want to buy books while over there but wondered if a UK kindle would allow me to do this? It says that the new 3g version has worldwide coverage but will I have to change the settings for when over there and then back to the UK when I get back but would that mean the books purchased in the States would no longer work over here?

Thanks in advance I would really be grateful for some help.

If you take a UK touch to the US, you can either continue purchasing books from Amazon.co.uk or you if you want, you could optionally switch it to an Amazon.com account (albeit losing access to your UK purchased books). Either way though, the actual Kindle itself will be fine.

Or wait and buy on in the US for a fraction of the price, register to your Amazon UK account and it will also work fine.

As Lou says you can switch Amazon accounts but you will only have content stored from the registered account at the time.

I worked the other way, I was lucky enough to have a relative buy one for me in Boston US ( KT with WiFi and 3G ) and bring it home on their next visit. I registered it to my Amazon UK account and it works fine, automatically downloaded my Amazon Kindle books etc. And the best bit - only £90 ! So, mine is a US version working perfectly in the UK with absolutely no 3G issues whatsoever !

If you are not in a rush and are definitely heading stateside, id just buy it out there.

( As a note, mine is the $149 sponsored ads version but they are so unobtusive that you hardly notice them )

Good luck

UK and US Touches are identical, both in terms of hardware and software. I have (frequently) transferred my Kindle account between Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com, and whatever ebooks I have bought previously (whether UK or US) transfer without a hitch. The only difficulty arises when Amazon.com sells US-only ebooks. In order to buy them you need a US address. If you don't have one, the way around this is to get an address from a friend or relative in the US or to register for a service like BundleBox, which gives you a US address. You can still use your UK (or whatever) credit card for payment.

Now that this tread has been answered woul it be OK for me to hijack it?

I live permanently in France and am buying a Touch wifi. I tried to buy via 'co.uk' but it wouldn't allow me to, I had to buy it vai '.fr'. I want to get English books. Is it possible for me to register my new toy with 'co.uk' and if so how?

Edit : - I had forgotten to mention that I am registered with amazon.co.uk for purchases and am a fairly regular customer. I don't know if that makes a difference?
Now that I know what everything is for it has either worn out or dropped off!
