RE: How Happy Am I With My New Kindle - PollI had a Sony Reader before my Kindle so the actual novelty of an E-reader hasn't affected my vote in any way and I can compare it to other readers I looked at before plumping for the Kindle hopefully making mine an objectionable review. - Overall, it's a solid piece of hardware, easy to use, excellent battery life, good display and reasonable size and weight. - The 3G and whispernet makes it ridiculously easy to purchase books(my old reader had to be uploaded to via USB). - Lack of Epub format really is a ridiculous oversight meaning that you're pretty much forced to use thrid party software like Calibre and Mobipocket - The page turn buttons seem a little flimsy and i've already noticed that mine feel loose - The 'blackout' when turning pages is a little irritating - Those screen savers really are horrid |

RE: How Happy Am I With My New Kindle - PollIt is certainly the best mass gadget to come along in years and has the potential to change the way people read and publish books as well as make them read more. Have you noticed how you take it everywhere and can't put it down? Luddites will bemoan the loss of the tactile feel of paper and binding but I believe the point of books is to read them, not put them on display. And look how much luggage space you save when you go on holiday. Yep, it's a 5 from me. DAVID HANCOCK

RE: How Happy Am I With My New Kindle - PollI've started a large paperback which I'd already bought. I usually eat when I read, if alone, real books are a struggle to keep propped open, paperbacks especially. Now I've got my cover with built in stand, reading and eating is much less stressful. ![]() The ease of buying reading material is very good, I now download a newspaper whenever I like. I do a lot of word games and the dictionary comes in handy as it's always within reach and the search function is much quicker than trawling through loads of pages. A great little gadget! RE: How Happy Am I With My New Kindle - PollFor her needs Kindle seemed on size, battery life and readability, as Kindle novice's we (well I did :rolleyes spent a lot of time deciding over which model, being sorely tempted by the Kindle Fire. Did not know if it supported UK keyboard and UK language. Glossy screen andbprice helped counter against it, i'd prefer for the money to get her a new ipad 16 Gb.She like's to read when in the beach, the ability to read in bright sunlight, is is where ipads, androids or anything with a glossy screen fails to be practical. Wondered if to go for more expensive 3G on the other models. tbh it was not really clear which was the best option, or in fact even the latest model with only £20 between the keyboard and touch, so decided on the touch purely on its smaller size, having an on screen keyboard means less buttons to break or damage. went 3g for convenience and later resale value. in another thread - my first, you can read my joys over the touch 3g starting up in Spanish, this is something i'm used to, if something can go wrong it is me who usually suffers it, so spent several hours sorting that out with help from this forums members, while ruing notoaying the £15 for PC World to set it up - example of pride before a fall being fully demonstrated. The keyboard is very laggy compared tomIpad2, i thnk the processor dealing with the animated forum emocons in the panel don't help this, remnds me of the ZX81 'dead fingers' keyboards. i am getting used to it now, it is not very intuitive how to load already owned books, a paper start up guide would be most welcome, especially for changing the languadge. tbh if it was for my use it would go back, but wifey likes the smaller size lighter weight and battery life compared to the android offerings and ipad2. I can only rate it at best as a 5, most of that earned for the very clear screen and email transfer of books from Kindle book stores, a feature i have discovered works beautifully on my IPad2 over WiFi. RE: How Happy Am I With My New Kindle - PollI've read more widely, read different authors and genres, reviewed a few books, all since having the K3 - oh, and joined a very helpful forum too (not naming which one!!). What's not to like?

RE: How Happy Am I With My New Kindle - PollAmazon have managed to integrate DRM in such a way that it doesn't get in the way of seamlessly reading books on a wide range of different platforms (I use Amazon, Android, iOS and PC). I'm convinced that not locking the consumers into their hardware will be the decisive factor that will allow Amazon to win over Apple, Nook, Kobo, and Sony. Simply making Kindle books platform agnostic gets 5 points as far as I'm concerned. I've also found that I use it more and more for other documents too - web pages grabbed by Instapaper, magazines and converted PDFs. The Kindle Keyboard is feeling a bit long in the tooth now, but I still love it. Cheers, Jonathan |
