According to more info from KDP users, Amazon stopped price matching to free last summer and declined to make one author free and said it would be down to their judgement if they did it for others. There are suspicions among authors that big name authors can get more than five days free by arrangement.

Amazon still does some price matching in the U>S., but they likely see no real competition in the UK and therefore don't feel the need to worry about it there. BN is still a big force int he US.
