RE: Question for Authors

I did okay with uploading four of my books to Smashwords. I did three at one time and had the same problems with all of them. Just had to make two corrections. By the time I uploaded the fourth one, I knew what I was doing and it went right through.

I have two more full-length novels to upload, but I wrote those books before I knew what I was doing. One is 260 pages and the other is 406. I know I'm going to have to do major reformatting and I'm dreading it.

I don't really sell anything from Smashwords, but I like that I can offer larger samples and generate coupons for OEBD. I suspect that a lot of people look at the samples on Smashwords and then go to Amazon or B&N to download directly from them.

RE: Question for Authors

Hello authors.... I'm looking for a bit of advice on copyright and intellectual property.

Floating through the back of my head for a while now has been an idea for a book that would be a continuation of a fantastic book series I read, developing some of the "supporting actors" as it were, at a later point in time than when the original books were set.

I know the author is dead now, but is there anything governing copyright, or the ownership of the intellectual property of the characters he created that I need to be aware of? Is there anyone I can contact about this?
We should lobby for claiming tax back on the Kindle, since we are offsetting the carbon footprint of getting treebooks. Reading Kindle

RE: Question for Authors

So I find a book on here that catches my eye, check out the sample and decide it's for me.
I check out the price on Smashwords and Amazon and they are practically the same (if I can work out the exchange rate correctly Pondering )
Where would you, as the author, prefer me to buy it from?
And this week Smashwords is offering 25% off. Does this mean you get 25% off your cut? As the price to me means it's cheaper to get it off SW this week.

Amazon every time. They pay regularly. I doubt I will ever be paid by Smashwords, as I sell so few there, and I think it's the same for most writers.

I imagine the publishers would be the ones to ask. They will warn you off if they have something to lose. But why don't you write your own book - rethink the characters so they are your own?

So in summary, then, if it's a KUF author, go straight to Amazon, if someone else, check out the prices and go for cheap.Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin
