Questions about using a kindle fire in the UK

This post was last modified: 16 Apr 2012 11:03 AM by camperdown9.
Hi

If I was to buy a US brand new Kindle Fire from say eBay, other than the no app store and no videos will it work for me?

1. Will I be able to read my current books from my Amazon UK account on it?
2. Can I buy books from Amazon UK on it?
3. How do pages appear, do they look clearer and can you adjust the text size?
4. I understand that currently I won't be able to use the App store or download movies . This is not really a big deal for me but when it goes on sale in the UK will that be fixed?

Any other thoughts about it?

What I really would like would be a full colour Kindle with a touch screen. Is that Kindle touch?

Alex

Update. Is the Kindle Fire more of a tablet than an ebook reader? Just watched a review on youtube and the reviewer never once show books on it.

1. Will I be able to read my current books from my Amazon UK account on it? Yes this works no problem, as long as you link your email address/amazon account to it, you can send them to your Kindle via Manage your Kindle on the website.

2. Can I buy books from Amazon UK on it? Yes, provided you do the above

3. How do pages appear, do they look clearer and can you adjust the text size? - you can adjust size, brightness as you would with the normal Kindle, although it can hurt your eyes after a while, but with a few tweeks its great

4. I understand that currently I won't be able to use the App store or download movies . This is not really a big deal for me but when it goes on sale in the UK will that be fixed? Obviously, as the update would bring in the App store for the UK, but there are ways and means to get apps sideloaded onto the kindle fire by downloading the apk files.

Any other thoughts about it? - If you want a cut price tablet, that's probably better than some in the market (in this KF owners opinion) without going ott with price for an iPad, then I'd suggest it wholeheartedly, the app store when its available will be a real shot in the arm for it

What I really would like would be a full colour Kindle with a touch screen. Is that Kindle touch? Kindle touch is the touch screen kindle for books only yes

I think the fact that it has ebooks is a bonus, but I tend to use it more for all of the above. Its great for comic book reading

Hope this helps.

What I Read

RE: Questions about using a kindle fire in the UK

Those are interesting questions, I'd like to know the answers as well please.

Why Amazon is delaying the Fire launch is a mystery to me, especially when other tablets are so in demand.

I love my Kindle 3 keyboard but may have to switch brands to get the extra versatility of a tablet if the Fire is much longer before it's available. Angry
