We all know VAT is a confusing subject, they make sure its that way to rob us even more.
But can someone please tell me why there is VAT charged on ebooks and not on paper book Huh

I would think as we are "saving trees" we would be spared the charge but no, another case of the government robbing us blind Thumbs Down

Or am I missing something here and have my facts wrong

Ebooks are, for reasons known only to HM's Custom and Excise, considered as a service rather than a product. That is the "justification" given for applying VAT @ 20%.

France and Luxembourg also charge VAT on ebooks - but at much lower rates, 5.5 and 3.0% respectively.

If you like, you can sign a petition to have VAT removed on ebooks at the link below. There are over 5,000 signatures already.

Thanks for shining a light on the reason vat is charged, another case of us being robbed here in the UK, as we are all euro now you would think vat would be similar but no not us.
I know I shouldnt look at this as only 5,000 signatures and do something about it myself, but it needs 5 million signatures for anyone to take it seriously, so I will put my time/energy into other things like the next chapter of my book
