UK Kindle Touch will be released in April. Now available for pre-order

After what seems like an unfeasibly long wait, Amazon have finally announced availability of the Kindle Touch in the UK and the rest of Europe.

After a successful launch in the US, the flagship e-ink reader from Amazon is finally going to see an official release which will come as welcome news to those who have been longing for a touch based Kindle option. Kindle Touch models imported from the US have been working well in the UK since launch and an official UK launch should iron out the only known issue for imported models which is the lack of access to the Kindle store via the screen menus.

Strangely, as we reported a while back, the rest of the world have been able to order the Kindle Touch from Amazon.com for a while now, with only the European stores failing to provide a service. Finally we can look forward to being on an even footing with the rest of the world.

The UK Kindle Touch comes in two flavours, the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi @ £109 and the Kindle Touch 3G @ £169 with no option for an ad supported model. Compared to the US prices of $139 (±£89) and $189 (±118) respectively for similar models, this does seem rather unfair pricing particularly when the Kobo Touch, the Kindle's main UK rival can be picked up for as little as £87. For those prepared to take a few extra steps it may still be worth looking at importing a US model, full details of how to do this can be found here.

The Kindle Touch can be pre-ordered right now from Amazon UK and will start shipping on 27th April 2012

Hi Lou, have you got any idea about whether current Kindle Touch users in the UK will have their ads removed after the April launch? Just wondering if it's worth buying the ads free version now instead of waiting a while. Thanks Smile

I don't think they will be automatically removed, but I would hope that Amazon have an easier facility for you to do so than at present.

now the kindle touch is finally getting an official UK release, does this mean all the ppl who bought the US touch will be able to use the amazon UK store from their kindles ?. it will be interesting to see if those who got the US KT will be treated the same as if they bought from UK with a few obvious exceptions like warranty, returns etc......

I think most likely that the store link from a US touch will automagically start working. Experience with other Kindles (keyboard etc) imported from the US has shown that they will be treated just like a UK purchased model although as you say, without the warranty etc.

RE: UK Kindle Touch will be released in April. Now available for pre-order

Hi

I bought a £89 kindle at Christmas and at first didn't really like it. I found it too difficult to use of reference books. It's just not easy to flick from section to section. I also don't like the four way pointer button thing, and trying to type using the keypad and this is at least for me really difficult. So it sort of got left unloved and unused.

Then I downloaded a free novel and that was my first book I ever read from cover to cover on the kindle and it was great. I like the fact that its light, that I can set my text size and that it talks to the app on my iPhone. So I have sort of gone from why buy a kindle version of a book when you can have a paper version for the same sort of price, to a why can't I get this for my kindle.

Anyway last night after maybe a little too much wine Wine3 I ordered a Kindle Touch. I don't need it and I am thinking about cancelling the order however at £109 its not that expensive so not really sure what to do.

My questions are.

1. Is it better for reference books that the Kindle that I have?
2. Is it much of an upgrade to my current kindle?
3. Can I download my books to more than one kindle?

Thanks

Alex

If the main problem you have with your current Kindle is control and the virtual keyboard, then I'd say yes, it should be a major improvement.

In terms of features, again it's quite a major upgrade, but of course it depends whether you use those features or not. Take a look here for a comparison of features. http://www.kuforum.co.uk...

You can use your books on multiple Kindles as long as they are both linked to the same Amazon account.

Today I ordered a Kindle Touch 3G for the offspring's birthday. It's the only way of getting my Kindle Keyboard back...
