Loved it! Inspired special effects, nice touches of humour and, as Joo says, very British.

When I saw the house first, I thought "Pompombery House" Then when I saw the "Status Update" I though Mr Wailing had had a hand in it Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

I thought it was absolutely fantastic! And what a master stroke getting the Queen to appear as herself in the James Bond clip - that will be a hard act to follow LOL.

Ah, but was it her? The shoulders of the woman sitting at the desk were too rounded for the Queen and I certainly don't think it was her walking down the corridor or sitting next to Daniel Craig in the Helicopter (though I loved the idea of her leaping out of it with a parachute strapped to her back Big Grin)
I think the only time HM appeared in the entire, carefully and cleverly edited, piece was when she turned in her chair and said, "Good evening, Mr. Bond." For the rest of the time 'she' was a look-alike.

Not that I've convinced my husband yet, mind you.

According to the Beeb it definitely was. I have to say though that she looked happier in the film than she did in the stadium, she seemed to have a face as long as a fiddle every time the camera showed her. There was one moment though, during the athletes coming in to the arena, we were watching one country that had the men wearing the most appalling blue and white hawaian type shirts. We were laughing about them at home, just as the camera panned to Charles and Camilla who were howling with laughter as well. I would love to think they were laughing at the shirts as well Big Grin

It was interesting to learn that this will be the first Olympics that all countries will have a female athlete competing.

One question - why all those announcements in French, before the English announcements? Only the French speak French, whereas almost everybody speaks English. I just didn't get why they were there. Was I missing something?

It was a brilliant opening ceremony, and as others have said very British. My daughter was watching with an Italian friend and she totally understood the Mr Bean part of the show, but had never heard of the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the Great Ormond Street segment! Smile

I couldn't agree more with you about the Queen, Elaine, she really looked like she didn't want to be there, and was fiddling with her nails as the British team came in! Even as she declared the games open and knew the cameras would be on her, she looked really miserable. Not even the slightest hint of a smile. Sad

Thanks Joo, I had no idea. How did they wangle that? You'd think if there was an official language it would be Greek.
