What I Read

RE: My funniest reviews

Hi Ray,

I think you are right that some readers may see it as if it is a very close friend or relative.

My thought (as a Danish reader) is that it is a foreigner. Someone who genuinely enjoyed it but doesn't quite know how to express it in English so he is too polite and exaggerates a bit.

Spot on, Dorte. The chap is an Indian (I mean he lives there). Purely by coincidence I've worked with plenty and I know they do tend to be so so polite it's a bit odd and funny if you're not used to it.

English is pretty much a first language for many of the younger generation there, it's just that it's a slightly different form of English.

What I Read

RE: My funniest reviews

Had to resuscitate this thread when I found the following Barnes & Noble review of "Liquorice Twists",

"If your 11 and go to roxbro road middle write "to raelyn"

Havent read it but looks good. And hey! This is raelyn stearns from R.R.M.S!"

So apparently someone uses B & N reviews in an effort to market herself???? I probably ought to tell B & N to remove it, but hey, it's five stars - and people are allowed to leave one-star reviews with absolutely no explanation so why should I do their job Wink

RE: My funniest reviews

I had to laugh at the latest review for Organized Murder. It was written by someone I know who probably thought she was helping...but I can't help thinking of that line, "Apart from that, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"

Very funny, Dorte. thanks. Useful spam, who'd have thought it.

Well, very funny until you get the opposite: 'Haven't read it, but it looks rubbish' - 1*.

RE: My funniest reviews

Not quite my funniest review, but one of my oddest, a 5* for The Lucky One on .com, exact quote:

'again I think you need to change the wording I love it when you pick 5 stars. There is nothing to love about this period of history!'

I think I know what she means. And it hasn't harmed The Lucky One - now up to 12 on .co.uk free short stories.

Good if you know what she means because I must admit I don't really get it. Apart from the five stars. Five stars are five stars, no matter what they write Wink

Hi Dorte,

A 5* Amazon review means 'I love it'. I'm guessing she doesn't see those 3 words as an appropriate reaction to something as sad and horrific as the holocaust, a fair point.

But yes, I take 5* as the ultimate compliment from a reader, which is very pleasing.
