Newbie musings

I bought a Kindle 4 yesterday. I connected it to my computer and drag & dropped a whole bunch of books on to it, and it shows them just fine. Very impressed with the clarity of the screen - it's so much easier on the eye than an LCD when reading in bed, and you just can't really appreciate it in the shops.

A few observations/questions:
  • It takes a long time to display the Home page (15-20 seconds). I wondered if this might be related to the number of books (a few hundred), but another owner tells me that his is almost instant despite containing loads of books. My next thought was that it might be beavering away indexing all the books I've dumped on it. Is this likely, and is there any way I can check its progress?
  • When the device is charging via USB (but 'ejected' so that it's usable at the same time), is there any way to tell how fully it is charged (i.e. percent complete)?
  • I gather that Collections on the kindle are very basic and can't be 'nested' (e.g. drama/crime; drama/war etc.). That seems a pity; has there been any indication/speculation that this might be improved in future firmware versions?
  • Is there a way of quickly and easily organising books into collections from a PC rather than via the Kindle's UI?

Thanks for any pointers.

I found a mention of indexing "getting stuck" if it encounters a file that's DRM-protected for a different device. I had added some files from my Kindle for PC content folder, so they seemed likely culprits. Having deleted them, everything is much snappier.
