The Survival of Thomas Ford is one of the most original and entertaining books I've read in a long time. From the opening sequence with the car plunging into Loch Ness through to the unsettling ending the pace never drops. Logan describes action sequences and psychologically disturbed characters with equal command. The writing is spare and eloquent and laced throughout with dark humour, at times verging on the farcial. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

I came across John A A Logan and this wonderful book on Twitter. I decided to download 'The Survival of Thomas Ford' to my Kindle as the book is set in Inverness, Scotland - my home town. My expectations weren't high.

I was in for a surprise. From the first paragraph, I was completely gripped. You will find yourself being pulled into the murkiest, darkest, disturbing depths of human behaviour. This chilling and mysterious story will have you intrigued and will literally leave you gasping for breath. It is impossible to put this book down.

Logan has nailed the Invernessian accent and dialect; I couldn't find a single flaw in it - it is perfect. I was bowled over by the wonderful and clever descriptions of places in and around Inverness. I felt like I was there, that I was a part of this story.

It is a beautifully written novel which really deserves more recognition. Had I not stumbled across Logan on Twitter, I might never have read this wonderful literary masterpiece.
