RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book (US results are in!)

I didn't vote for the cover as although it might initially grab my attention better than another book, it has no bearing on whether I'd buy it or not. Like the author, blurb and in a genre I normally read are probably the biggest factors. Recommendations would be in there too, but I'd still have to read the blurb before deciding whether or not to click the buy button.

RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book (US results are in!)

I have voted back to front after just having voted on 10 Reasons not to buy a book.

Advertising doesn't seem to affect me although I find this hard to believe.

Also I listen to fourm buzz and reviews. Again I don't seem to be too bothered by genre.

Oh well.

As an author, I find this thread and poll very useful. It indicates what I should be concentrating on once the (great!) book is written.

It's clear that people have their different reasons, but the same few reasons seem to dominate... and advertising and the title wallow at the bottom.

I agree Ken - this is extremely useful. As an author's (unpaid) advisor I'm going to make sure we revisit the blurb for Blackened Cottage as I'm not sure it's as good as I'd like. I'd be very interested to see what 'blurbs' people found excellent so I'll start a new thread on it.
