I'm surprised I'm the only one who's clicked advertising.
If a books not advertised in some way how would you know about it.

All those who have been clicking away on the freebies & amazons 12 day sale is advertising.

Good point Kaska, didn't really think of it like that.

I don't think there is one overall thing that makes me buy a book, especially with all the lovely indie authors, so I have ticked several answers. Smile

hmmm interesting, but i read the advertising option more to include the paid for ads on websites and the emails people like amazon send out rather than me going looking for the free reads etc which i consider more as a shopping experience, like a "storefront" for me to browse in...

but that's just my interpretation...

Same here, there's always more than one reason.

My surprise about the advertising mainly is the amount of times I read here that people are now reading new genres & new indie authors due to their kindle & KUF .. Well they have purchased those books because Authors are advertising their books here! ( & other places).

They wouldn't know about them without the advertising.
Authors reduce their books or put them free to get peoples attention. It's called advertising. Wink

Thanks to everyone who has voted & commented... really interesting for authors & readers. Without this sort of feedback, we just don't know what inspires folk to buy books.

RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book

An extra reason for me when it comes to buying books, especially kindle books is the price. I have been know to keep ebooks on my wishlist and wait to see if it has a miraculous discount, such as the deal of the day etc, and then snap it up Big Grin

So whilst forum buzz, the blurb, the pretty picture on amazon and the title are important, price is big key factor too for me. If its over a fiver, I just wont go there, because I know in time it'll be cheaper (depends if I can be that patient though lol). For example, I've wanted to try Game of Thrones for ages but always deterred by the price, over Christmas it was 1.99 so I snapped it up.

Hey Sezo, Of course I should have included the price - it's on my longer list, but it got chopped when I cut the list down to ten.

At the moment, I'm sorry to see "Read others by the Author" at the top, because that's a hard one to challenge for one-book authors like me. "The blurb" at number two is encouraging though... and I have been getting help with my blurb in another post.

But that is only natural, Ken. Although we are happy to try new authors, if one of our favourite authors publishes a new book, we want to have a look at it at least. You'll just have to write another book! Wink

RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book

An interesting thread, Ken.
I answered it on the assumption that we are talking about buying for Kindle. A book by a favourite author is usually a safe bet. If it's an author I don't know then independent reviews give me a good steer. Price is important; if it's a book and author I don't know, but it only costs 99p, I'll happily take a chance knowing that if I find I'm not enjoying it I can delete it without being irritated by the cost.
If browsing in a bookshop the cover design and title are important in catching my eye and the blurb makes me take a closer look.
