Comics & Graphic Novels - A little help for a new user

Hi Guys,

following my opening of a Kindle Wifi 2011 on Christmas Day, I have found myself getting more and more engrossed in books again.

My favourite type of book to read is [admittedly embarrassing] graphic novels or even movie adaptations in comic form such as =Watchmen= or =Star Trek= etc.

I was wondering if there is an easy way to get my digital comics (cbr, cbz, pdf) to the kindle without too much hassle, and not taking too much space, as although the kindle has a fair whack of storage space, the pdf files are normally around 4-12 megabytes, depending on length.

Is there a generic converter out there that I can use?

I know that if I open cbz and car files with winrar and save them all as jpegs, I have normal picture files, but am I right in assuming that I'd need to convert them to a greyscale image then collate with a mobi compiler if there is such a thing??

Hope theres a way to do this as it would make my already happy reading days even better, and make my new Kindle experience one to be much-loved for years to come.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks guys n gals.

RE: Comics & Graphic Novels - A little help for a new user

Before I get flamed for wasting time, I just had a rather in depth search on 'the worlds favourite Search Engine' and came across a right old Gem of a program called 'Calibre'

This is a superb program that accepts upwards of 20-odd input file types, and convert to almost anything.

This program is, I believe, free of charge, and can be found here:

http://calibre-ebook.com/about

I hope that this helps people who required the help I did, and again I offer my apologies for what appears to be a premature call for help.

Other than that, my Kindle ROCKS!!!!!!

Peace,

KK

Calibre is a great tool to have in your arsenal, but pdf's aren't one of the Kindle's strongest attributes. Whilst they do work the formatting and layout can often be poor and unlike standard ebooks the font sizes don't scale very well (or at all) which makes it very difficult to read some pdf's as the text becomes very small.

I did try converting some standard technical book pdf's when I first got the kindle and gave up, deciding they were better to stay on my iPad. I didn't try any comic book type documents but even on the iPad they can be hard to read. The comic book publisher have their own apps which help you navigate through the comic allow you to zoom in on the section of the page as you move through the comic.

I have converted graphic novels, but typically I cannot remember what format they were originally in (possibly pdf). I would have used calibre or mobipocket creator.
I tried converting .cbr but didn't have much success.
