RE: Kindle Touch - Does it work in the UK? Answers Here

I'm wondering how accurate this 5 day shipping time is....has anyone tried this and been successful?

I am an american living in the UK and i regularly have things sent to me from the US. When you select a shipping option, say 'next day air', the only thing this guarantee's is that your package will arrive at CUSTOMS the next day, not at your house. There is absolutely no guarantee of when you will receive your package after this, as the processing time through customs is its own thing....

They've also figured only £2-3 for customs, which i consider to be a gross miscalculation and i am wondering where it came from. I have had things with a total value of $30 sent to me for which i have had to pay more than £18 VAT (granted it was not an e-reader). The 'gift' option when sending applies only to products less than £40...so i don't think that applies here either....

I don't want to be critical, i really would like someone to tell me this actually worked for them. please help.

I ordered my KIndle Touch through Shipito as there are no monthly fees. I paid $8.50 and chose express Fedex at $49. It was picked up by Fedex on Saturday 19th and was delivered to me, yesterday, Monday 21st with no customs fees to pay - well worth it. So far love the Touch but there is no UK cover for it.

Hey Guys - Thanks so much for all of this. I have recently purchased a kindle touch (wifi) whilst working here in the US. It was delivered today but I was told it wouldnt work outside of the USA. I spoke to a person online at Amazon and they said the same, they actually told me to return the Kindle touch and get a Kindle touch 3G which would work in the UK. But he couldnt explain why ... sooo happy you have cleared this up for me! Happy Happy Happy. Smile

It really is difficult to believe what you hear from customer services sometimes as more often than not one person will tell you something completely different from the next. Often these people are just working in offshore call centres and have no actual experience of the product, so they just read off a sheet of paper that says Kindle Touch is US only.

The fact that they told you a Kindle Touch 3G would work and a Wi-Fi wouldn't is just bizarre. Maybe they want you to spend more money.

Yes I did wonder at that but so happy you have created this forum ... As I would have returned it otherwise!!! Coincidently this is te email follow up I received from amazon on why the wifi kindle touch will not work!

---------
I'm writing to let you know that Kindle Touch will detect only US IP addresses. And so it will not connect to international IP addresses. Besides, this is the reason for not shipping Kindle touch internationally.

Thank you for your detailed report. It has really helped me make up my mind to buy the Kindle Touch. I am just confused about the 3G element. If this only works in the UK for Amazon and Wikipedia is it worth paying the extra amount for 3G? Or will the 3G work for other sites later on and therefore worth buying the 3G version. Or is this a gamble?

Sorry if this is a silly question but I do not have a Kindle yet and want to make sure that I make the right one.
