RE: Kindle Touch - Does it work in the UK? Answers Here

HI there

I have just had email to say that my Touch will be released soon (it will go to my Bundlebox address, then to me).

Most of my books are via the Shop in Kindle Store, if this does not work how do I download books (I am not that technical, but do have WIFI) WOuld not want to link Kindle to computer all the time? So how do I browse if the Kindle Store thing doesn't work?

Cheers for your help! It may be that if this function does not work, I may cancel my order!

As Lou said earlier, use the Browser then have sent to your Touch via Whispersync. Or go to your PC - Choose a book, and pay for it and get it sent via Whispersync as before.

I'm waiting to see if my FIRE will allow downloads from my USA account, not UK.
My only fleeting concern is NOT to buy too much from USA account as it would be lost if I Registered the Fire here in the UK once it was launched.

CoV is correct - just use the web browser on the Kindle to go to th Amazon store. Essentially it's just the menu item that doesn't work, so you can just load up the Kindle browser and type in Amazon.co.uk.

On page 1, you say 'The Menu item called "Shop in Kindle Store" does not work and says that this is not supported for the UK store at this time.'

Do you know if there is precedent with previous Kindles - bought in the US with this, or another, element disabled - subsequently being enabled, once that version of the Kindle becomes available in the UK...?

In other words, does previous experience indicate that "the one small exception" might disappear once the Kindle Touch is sold in the UK?!

I don't know if there's a precedent for this, but I'd dare to go out on a limb and say that yes, once it's released in the UK I'd feel confident that this would disappear.

Funny thing is, if I want to buy a kindle here in Ireland through Amazon, the UK site won't let me. It tells me to go to the US store. They won't ship outside the UK. Likewise for books. It says the Kindle store is for UK customers only, go to Amazon.com store. So we deal with the US store only.

One other question: this version is the Kindle "without special offers".

How can the cheaper "with special offers" Kindle be bought like this, and used in the UK?

Presumably, as there is no support for the product yet, Amazon are unable to promote offers on these Kindles? And therefore, there is no reason to pay the premium for the ad-free version if it is being taken out of the US...

Or is my logic missing something?

It would just show you US based ads unless you remove them.

RE: Kindle Touch - Does it work in the UK? Answers Here

Hi, everyone! Sorry if this question has already been asked.

I'm an American with a British fiance (he's still currently in the UK until next year). I was hoping to buy him the touch (it looks amazing!) for Christmas, and this thread has mitigated most of my fears that it will work in the UK. I have no particular desire to wrap it myself, so would it be best just to follow the directions to have it shipped to the UK? Or should I send it to myself (at an American address) first and then send to him? Are there any particular worries I should be aware of to tell him, or will he just be good to go once he gets the Kindle Touch? Thanks in advance!

It would probably be easiest and cheapest if you have it delivered to you and post it to him. You may also be able to declare it as a gift and avoid import taxes (not 100% sure about this).

The Touch works fine in the UK, so no worries about that.
