The image size I used was 1841px (15.5cm) by 2775px (23.5cm) @ 300dpi. Even if I import a perfectly formed mobi file created from mobipocket creator, when Calibre converts it, it leaves the white spaces either side. I'll experiment with the dimensions you have both supplied.

Hi George,

I think this may be the problem as the sizes you mention are in the wrong ratio. If you made it a multiple of 800x600 eg 1800x2400 it should fit properly then.

Hi Lou,

Thanks for that. I tried 800x600, and this then moved the white spaces from the sides to the top and bottom. I have kept adjusting the image size, and so far, 870x600 gives the best results.

I wonder if Calibre is messing with the image somewhat as the Kindle screen should be that exact resolution.

Have you tried doing the conversion with Amazon's official tool (forget what it's called now)?

I do have a solution for the kindle format, because Mobipocket Creator does a good conversion. My problem is creating the epub - even if I try to convert the Mobi file to epub or import the HTML and image into Calibre, it has always left a white space either at the sides or top and bottom, when I view it in Adobe Digital Editions for desktop. But using 870x600 gives a better, though not perfect, result.

I have never tried the Amazon solution for the Mobi file, and based on some of the negative responses I've seen from authors who have used it, I will stick with Mobipocket Creator for now.
