Bookclub: Suggestions for book to read during December

Please list your suggestions for the book to read during December 2011.

Joo suggested that we put up suggestions for a Christmas-related book, so please feel free to do that, although we will also take suggestions for non-Christmas related books, as I think it might otherwise limit the choice of a good read.

There are 2 books from last month's poll which will automatically go through to the November poll. They are The Woman in Black and Diary of a Parallel Man,so there is no need to put these books forward again.

Suggestions will be taken until November 21st. On the 22nd, a second thread will be posted with a poll for voting on your book choice. The winning title will become our Book for December. You will have one month to read the chosen book.

On January 1st 2012, the book's thread will be opened and discussion will commence.

Please keep cost in mind when suggesting books. Try to keep suggestions under £5.

Please tell us:

•Book Title
•Name of Author
•Link
•Price range
Why you are recommending the book

Please note that suggestions and the voting on books in the KUF Bookclub is open to active KUF members only. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am going to suggest The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes, priced at £3.99 on Amazon. Winner of the Man Booker Prize.

It is a short book - a novella - of about 150 pages.

I'm about 25% through it at the moment and it is a real gem of a book. He writes beautifully about a man looking back over events that happened in his youth. His descriptions and dialogue are wonderful.

Not a Christmas-themed book, but a real gift of a book!

I'd like to suggest Richard Wilde by Mary Fitzgerald. She is one of my favourite indie authors and I think that Richard Wilde is one of the best books that I have read on the kindle. It doesn't fit any particular genre and has been very popular with readers on the official amazon forum. Very well written. I hope that this book will gain the wide recognition that it deserves.

Priced at £1.14.

I'd never heard of this book, Kew, but will put it in my TBR pile, whether it is chosen or not. Thank you. Smile

Thanks Kew,

Richard Wilde is now downloaded onto my kindle and now vying (sp!) with the book club's current book of the month In The Blood in the 'reading now' section on my Kindle.

Bye for now,

Paula

Hi

I would like to suggest Alison Wonderland by Helen Smith. It is currently priced at £1.99. I was asked to review this book and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does get mixed reviews at Amazon but I found it light hearted reading and funny.

@ John, I downloaded Alison Wonderland some time ago but haven't got round to reading it yet - at least it's already on my kindle if this one gets chosen!

The Kult by Shaun Jeffery
Am I the only one who has yet to read this book?
It's apparently not as horror as it seems, more thriller. And it's just 86p.
Please put a bowl of water out for hedgehogs and other night-time visitors, you might just save their life.
While you are at it, feed the birds too. Thumbs Up And come and talk about it at Garden Wildlife Forum

Great book, no not exactly horror, but certainly not for the faint hearted! Big Grin
