Hi,

For point 1, this will be fine on any model Kindle as long as you can access your Amazon.co.uk (or .com) account via the computer.

For point 2, (3G btw) I don't really know enough to about this side of things to be able to say one way or the other. Probably the best thing to do in this instance is contact Amazon support and ask them.

Smile RE: Which Kindle to Choose ? - Our 2012 Kindle Buyer's Guide

Hi there....I am looking for some help from Kindle users on which Kindle to buy my hubby for his bday in a few weeks.
A little bit about him and his reading habits. Just so you know what would be best suited for him - He loves reading everywhere and anywhere....constantly buying book after book and when he knows a new one has come out by a certain author he must have it.At home he reads mostly before he is going to bed, much to my annoyance, as he must keep the light on. On the weekends he will sit at a cafe or in the park reading or when he is waiting in the car for me after doing my shopping.

He is an accountant by profession so he is also constantly on his work blackberry looking at emails etc....unfortunately he doesnt have internet on his phone so the only access he can have online is when he is on his pc at work/home. We have wi-fi at home too. There are times when he has to open up attachments etc on his blackberry and due to the size they dont show up well.

He is a rather clumsy person by nature, always dropping things etc.

I am very stuck with this Kindle stuff because I have not really come across many users and my hubby as been on and on about it but never got one. I think he also thinks of the price etc...but i think if it can be multipurpose used then its worth the spend and so now im going to spoil him for a change.

nways any help u can give me would b appreciated. thank you

Hi Sims

Have you looked at the comparisons at the beginning of this thread (on page 1)?

I have the 3G Kindle keyboard and wouldn't swap it for anything. As for downloading attachments onto the Kindle, I'm not sure that's going to be very easy as general web browsing and emails are fiddly and not really for proper use. The 3G is very useful though, I use it when on holiday and also if I'm away from home and want to check a book on Amazon.

Hi, thanks for reply. Yes i have looked at it..just need some first hand info from the users too..with regards to using the web are any of the kindles good for that? I think something like jst checkin emails on hotmail etc and maybe occasional download of some attachments is what he would need.

will keep in mind the point of 3G being good on hols.

Yes, you can certainly check your emails, no problem, and you can access this site amongst others, subscribe to news etc, but I'm less sure about downloading attachments.

Downloading attachments is a no-no, except for .mobi files (not sure about PDF's)

We have a separate part of the forum for the Kindle Fire where you can find lots of info about it. It's a tablet rather than an e-reader, so has an LCD screen. Also, it is not officially available in the UK, so there are some limitations on using it here.

Hi there :-)

I also have a 3g kindle keyboard and i would thoroughly recommend it- I have tried reading my kindle books on my smartphone (xperia arc) but it is not very good- the reading experience isn't very good so i would highly recommend a kindle- and with the kindle keyboard 3g you can surf the web to an extent- checking emails is no problem- you cant open attachments with it, but you can browse the web, even if it is a little clunky.

I've had mine for a while now, and apart from a hairline crack (which doesn't affect it in any way bar cosmetically) has been perfect.

There are many free books available for the kindle, both classics and some great up to date ones on the Amazon kindle books site- and you can pick up some bargain best sellers too.

You can get lighted cases but they are quite expensive- however i know a few people who have them and would never use anything else to protect their kindles- and of course there are the pound shop clip on light jobbies, which do an adequate job.

I'd go for it and buy him one :-)
