I believe the criticality point is correct according to other blogs I've read.

A little like Windows updates that need a Restore Point sometimes and not others

RE: US Kindle Fire in the UK

I bought a US kindle fire about 1 week ago.

My overall summary would be this:

1. Great tablet
2. Rubbish software
3. Root it, put on ICS9
4. Install any app you want, install google play, install kindle app, netflix etc

RE: US Kindle Fire in the UK

Now that Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is available I wonder if Amazon will start to use this . While I have followed this with interest can a "Fire" be updated to run the latest version without losing anything ? Further with the rumor of a 7" IPad the "Fire" needs something special to compete or all is lost .

I don't think the Kindle fire will gain much from an ICS update. It's skinned heavily.

My US KF works very well (apart from being unable to use the amazon app store - I use getjar instead).

RE: US Kindle Fire in the UK

I have contacted Amamzon re use of my USA Kindle Fire in the UK, and they have confirmed that without a US-based credit card address, it is impossible to download any content (including FREE apps). There is no work around, they listened sympathetically and suggested I get an address in the USA or simply flog it to someone else.

Not the response I wanted or expected. Surely they could tell the device to accept my UK Amazon account? It is not as if I am trying to steal from them.

RE: US Kindle Fire in the UK

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but I am struggling to find a solid answer. The newer Kindle Fires.... If i was to buy one in the USA ... NOW and take it back to the UK will it be fully compatible or have some issues with Apps etc? Many thanks in advance.
