Same here. I've managed to do everything else from books, pics, music through to videos (try this link for tips, especially good for putting 3rd party books into 'Books' on the Fire instead of elsewhere - http://howto.cnet.com...
But not apps. Angelina from AndroidPit (http://www.androidpit.com/) has sold me a Windows Office app for only £4 and given advice, but I still can't download it.
It's the only thing missing from turning this little tablet into a really useful device and so annoying that even the Google 'MarketPlace' won't play either.

Yes, your Kindle Fire will update itself automatically if there is a Wi-Fi connection. You can also manually download the updates from here : http://www.amazon.com...

Sometimes the updates go automatically and others you need to sync or do manually. I don't know why exactly though. Maybe it's to do with how critical the update is and if it has security fixes.

I am a confused 'have not' too. I was the first KF user on the forum after I volunteered to test drive it.

Patience IS a virtue, most of the time it guides us to possible alternatives whilst we wait and cogitate (I won't go blind Groovy)

On the subject of Windows Office App - have you not tried using the inbuilt QUICKOFFICE App? We use it to great effect personally and with client presentations. Worth a look
