Library lending to Kindles in UK

Just my personal wish, as someone dedicated to not paying for things :-)

I see that it is starting to become available in the US though - wonder if any of the US libraries would let me join?

I noticed that some kindle books are lending enabled on Amazon.com but the same books are not enabled from Amazon.co.uk. I wondered if it is possible to buy/download from Amazon.com from the UK, and if so whether the books can be loaned?

RE: Library lending to Kindles in UK

It would be great if the libraries in the UK would start copying the US model. My son, in fact most the kids in my family, are voracious readers and I imagine that the sales of the Kindle in the UK would increase if Amazon could negotiate this. How hard can it be to set up a library database where all books borrowed are deleted from the Kindle device after 28 days. Sky does with films bought from the box office where they are deleted after a set period (a week I think - I tend not to buy films from box office, they are too expensive).

Do you think if we kept badgering Amazon they could put a kindle service into action through the UK libraries? We need to do something to keep the UK libraries open.

Welcome Ubuntu1

And what an interesting first post! Do you have any more info, not that I live in Derbyshire, though!

In an email from my library (Exeter) today:

"we are currently looking into providing an e-book service for our borrowers and hope to have something set up in the very near future"

It looks as though UK libraries are getting there!

We can borrow e-books from our local library. It's great, and you have to renew the books if you want to keep them. Smile The service has been going for about 18 months I think. They don't go onto a Kindle though. Smile
