Has anyone used this plugin? It seems good but I've come across a stumbling block in the early stages and would appreciate some guidance.

Yes, I'm using the plugin.

The only downside is when you activate 3g and your collection data stored on Amazon is automatically downloaded to the Kindle, overwriting your current settings. That's why my Kindle is never online.

I've just tried to install the plug-in Phil mentions above in Calibre. I've gone through the process four times in the latest version - 8.41 - which is slightly different. I've moved the Kindle Collections icon from the list of available actions to the list of current actions, moved it up the list to be the first icon displayed on the left of the main calibre screen and hit 'apply'. But each time, when I restart Calibre it's nowhere to be seen - although the icon is now displayed in the current actions list.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks!

ETA: Never mind! I just realised what's wrong. Just read the blurb at the top of the screen which means that the icon won't show up on the toolbar until the Kindle is connected to Calibre.

I have a question - we're looking into using Kindle at work, and for a variety of reasons wi-fi / 3G connectivity isn't an option in this location - as far as I can tell, 'Amazon' Collections require wi-fi access, as the Collection is actually maintained at Amazon?? Is this also the case with Collections created and managed via Calibre?? The comment above indicates that it may not.

Thanks in advance, if anyone can help.

I was under the impression that you only needed to attach to wifi the once to enable collections on your kindle. Then you need never connect wirelessly again. You can find a wifi at home or at a fast food outlet Big Grin

I'm not sure about the plug-in as mentioned above as I don't use Calibre much. But as far as I'm aware, my collections are on my kindle, not at Amazon.

Hey, thanks for getting back to me - well, I was puzzled too, but this page at Amazon says:

Collections are stored on Amazon: When you create a collection on a device, we'll save your collection so it appears in Archived Items on other devices registered to your Amazon.co.uk account. This allows you to transfer collections across registered Kindles.

And any wi-fi is no-go...

I think it's that it saves it on Amazon, not stores it, if you see what I mean.

I understand now that you aren't allowed to connect to wifi rather than you can't. You won't be able to have collections then.

Can't you take the Kindles off site to connect to wifi once so that you can enable collections for subsequent offline use?

RE: Sorting books into collections - tips?

Yeah - can't be done unfortunately... We may experiment with next 1 in, connect, check collections are active, and then go wi-fi-dark...
