iPad vs. Fire HD (seriously)

This post was last modified: 04 Dec 2018 02:19 PM by Robinmalhotra.
Hey guys, that's a serious question. For days, I've been trying to figure out what's the right tablet for me, and which investment makes more sense. I have a Fire HD 8 lying here that I could already test. And also here is a new 2017 iPad, which I can not test due to the necessary registration, otherwise I could not return it (warranty begins after the registration to run).

My requirements are not specific:

Watch Netflix / Amazon Video / YouTube on the couch or on the train

Listen to music

play casual games

surf the internet

Read PDFs / eBooks

Both devices are excellent, I'm sure.

The only question is what the better investment is in the long run. The iPad is four times as expensive as the Fire HD.

What I like about the Fire HD:  Speed Test Scrabble Word Finder Solitaire

very handy

pleasant display colors

good speakers, not mounted on the "grip side" in landscape mode

(logically) good Amazon connection (Prime Music, Video etc.)

you have answered your own question, the iPad is 4times the price, one would expect it to at least twice as good, however of your requirements the 10" is more than capable of doing all those to a good standard, with the exception that the speakers drop a long way short of high fidelity, good enough for films, less so high quality music, you need headphones   aseperate speaker or play it through your music player or tv, if you want good quality music, that said the iPad speakers won't give you hi fi either. though possibly more so than the kindle.

why don't you try the 8 " if that's meets your needs, then the 10 inch is better, you don't need to register a kindle to use it, not sure about the iPad, but I would expect not

I buy my kindle a in the sales, when commonly they have a third off and then replace them with a new one next year when the new model is out and the sales come round again, that makes the iPad 6 times more expensive it certainly isn't 6 times as good for your intended use, no r t would I expect it to last 6 years

there is the ongoing issue about the lack of availability of apps, but those in the Amazon store will meet your  stated needs and very nearly anything else can beside loaded
not sure what you mean by casual games? I wouldnt expect games with a high graphics content to run all that well
