Promotional Sites in the UK

Hello All,
I am an American author of Historical Fiction/Gothic/Romantic Fiction. I am wondering if any authors might suggest promotion sites to reach UK readers. It seems that the United States have loads of them (some good and some not). I haven't found many for the UK while searching. I did post a book on Book Angel UK but it didn't produce sales. It was free so nothing lost.
Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

RE: Promotional Sites in the UK

BookBub's UK list is enormous. The next biggest is BookHippo which is free and delivers great results.

Some of the other small sites have UK lists too: eBookSoda, BookRaid et al. They're not solely British, but they do add a little here and there.

Amazon UK is still a more organic reader-driven market. AMS is starting to erode that a bit with huge PPC bids, and facebook ads can be targeted just as well in the UK as the USA, but you may to want to look into British reading groups on forums like this, facebook groups that are genre specific, and the same again on Goodreads.

RE: Promotional Sites in the UK

I signed up for BookHippo this weekend for a possible promotion in September. Has anyone experienced their requirement of having a professional editor? As an Indie author on a limited budget, I think this policy would exclude a lot of writers in the same situation as me. I have already spent plenty on advertising and promotions as I am sure all of you can relate to. I was just curious because I haven't experienced this requirement with paid sites that I have worked with. Thanks all.

Hi John,

I compile BookHippo's daily newsletter. Basically, BookHippo.uk promotes books by authors who take self-publishing as seriously as a professional publishing house would. That doesn't have to mean paying a lot of money for an editor but if I haven't heard of an author, the editor field is a quick way for authors to demonstrate the kind of approach that they take.

We understand that authors have a limited budget. That's why our service is free. On a small budget, it's hard to know whether to spend on advertising or editing, but editing usually delivers a better experience for readers and so featuring lots of books that have been professionally edited keeps readers on our mailing list longer, which benefits more indie authors in the long run.

Hi Rosen,
I understand your point of view. I have seen poor editing in some novels. Personally, I choose to focus my resources on promotions and book covers as I was a Writing major. I certainly don't consider myself as talented as some professional editors yet feedback on my novels have stated that they were well-written.
Hopefully you will consider some quality novels that don't fall within your stated requirement. Thank you for your effort on behalf of indie authors.

John

BookHippo.uk is by far the best site in the UK. It has high standards and delivers an excellent daily newsletter. It would be worth your while subscribing to it, John, to get a feel for it.
