RE: If you lose your Kindle...

I'm amazed at your confidence that the person finding it would actually want to return it. I'm getting cynical in my old age... Kindle Sad

I'm gonna carve my name and address on the cover with a knife. I'll carve it deep, so no one can claim not seeing it. Wink

I bought my ipod straight from Apple and they were giving you a free engraving and I did the same there - "If found please email joo".
I figure if it's stolen, you have no chance, but if it's found by an honest person (or recovered by the police) then you have a chance.

Yep , that is a good solution, I 've made the same.

I have named my K3 "If found, please call 07*** *****0", so if they manage to turn it on they will see that on the home screen.

Did you know that if you do lose your Kindle or have it stolen then you need to contact Amazon and tell them - do not simply de-register it from your account or they will think that you have sold it or given it to someone else.

If you contact them they will remove all the books from your Kindle the next time it is turned on and put a block on the device so that it cannot be re-registered by the thief. This means that whoever has stolen it (or finds it and intends on keeping it) will not be able to use it and more importantly will not be able to purchase books on your account.

This happened to a friend of mine who accidentally left his Kindle on a train and, after checking with the Lost Property office, came to the conclusion that he was never going to get it back. He contacted Amazon and they marked it as stolen and acted accordingly.

The happy ending to the story is that several days later he checked again with British Rail Lost Property and someone had handed it in so he was able to contact Amazon and let them know and they re-instated his Kindle and he has all his books back Smile

RE: If you lose your Kindle...

I put my contact details on a sticker on the cover, then if someone finds it I can get it back easily
