Wink Out and About

This is off the topic or rather half and half.

We, my mother and I, are away to my youngest nephews gym class. Evey Monday his other grandmother takes him to the kiddie gym class held out a local sports centre.

As we have him today in place of her my sister in law asked us to bring him. I decided that since my Mother opted to go in with him that this would be a fine opportunity to field test my Kindle away from home.

As I am typing this on my Kindle I would deem this experiment a success. My 3G signal changes between three and four bars which hasn`t impacted on performance.

I intend also to check the signal and response at the school when I pick up the other two in about an hour or so. After I post this I intend to browse the bookstore and see how it compares to browsing at home.

By the by I am wearing sunglasses in direct sunlight and the screen is perfectly clear.

What I Read

RE: Out and About

I've found the 3G to be more than satisfactory even when down to just 1 bar. I still can't get over the fact that it's free!!

I must confess to not having owned a 3G device before - I hardly use a mobile phone and could never see fit to justify the expense of a 3G capable phone or contract, so prior to the Kindle my free-roaming web access experience is little or none other than using the free wifi at our local pub on my netbook and iPod touch.

So whilst I'm a happy bunny at being able to surf anywhere I like now, my wife is not so happy as I'm pretty much glued to something electronic the whole time now Sad

It really makes sense to have 2 Kindles on one account. Me and OH have our Kindles on one account and any books he has downloaded that I am not interested in just stay in my Archive and don't clutter up my folders.

RE: Out and About

I needed a postcode for the sat nav (don't start) yesterday, usually I would text a friend (my phone is *old*, it doesn't even have a colour screen let alone wap), but I thought "ah ha... I'll use my Kindle": free 3G is very useful. Smile

'Selling' the Kindle to my wife turned out fairly easy when she realised that on holiday she would have more space for clothes and as many books as she wanted, on the KindleCool

We both share the same account as we have similar reading tastes.

3G on my Kindle seems to work without any hiches. As soon as it detects no wi-fi £G kicks in straight away. Speed seems as good as via our Router at home.
