If you like free eBooks, why not help out...?
Anyway, to make a long email longer... As I was scouring Project Gutenberg and Manybooks.net today for my latest fix, I came across the "Distributed Proofreaders" project page.
This is a Gutenberg project that aims to speed up the "recovery" of public domain books into ebook format. It does this by getting as many people as possible to proofread individual pages, which are cross-checked and reassembled into complete converted ebooks.
I've signed up and will spend the odd lunch-break from time-to-time helping out.
I think the beauty of this system is that you can help without either having to really get into a book you might not enjoy, but also that you can potentially find a book you really like and help its conversion without losing the enjoyment of eventually reading it, since you'll only have seen a couple of pages from it to start with!
Anyway, take a look if you feel you have the time to give back...
