££££ - both Amazon and the publishers would rather people buy than lend, so they aren't in any rush to implement anything.

Go to http://search.overdrive.com/ and click on the "Library Search" tab, then select your region and it gives links to your local libraries that lend ebooks through Overdrive.

Problem at the moment is that although Overdrive support the Kindle format, they are only do so in the States. I assume this is a licensing issue - possibly UK publishers are more comfortable with the Adobe DRM than with Amazon's Digital Rights Management.

A bit of googling a while ago got me to exciting discovery that Cheshire Public Library seemed to offer eBooks and even Kindle format ones!!
It wasn't until my login was refused that i noticed that it was Cheshire, Connetticut. Undecided

Here's a thought; should we as authors make sure we are registered for Public Lending Rights for our e-books, then? If libraries in the US are lending out our books we get no recompense, and if the UK libraries are following suit, then we ought to get a lending fee from the PLR people, surely? But we have to register.
