What I Read

RE: How much do you read before deciding whether you are going to like a book?

If I find after the first two chapters that I am really not getting on with it, then I leave it for a few months, then go back to it, and if I can't get back into it then, I give up. I try and give a fair crack of the whip, in case it is just me me who is not in the mood for that particular genre or author at the time.

I try to give a book a good chance before giving up, but have found a couple recently that I thought from the blurb would have been a lot better than they were in reality. Like Elaine I will usually go back and try again after a few months, but if I can't get into it a second time I usually give up and move onto something else.
Only happy when I am immersed in a good Kindle book Thumbs Up

I have gone back to some books which I just couldn't finish first time around, years later, and found that I liked them. My reading tastes can change over time and depending on what mood I'm in.

Sometimes I'm too tired or distracted to enjoy a book in the evenings if I'm starting it. I find some books take a couple of chapters for scene setting.

The real turn off for me is if I want to start editing it.

It varies a lot for me. Minimum is about 5 pages, sometimes if it doesn't grab me I give up then.
However it's not uncommon for me to read halfway, or even more, then give up if I'm not enjoying it.
Life's too short and there are so many books out there I'd like to give a go.
I read about 90% of Deception Point.
